SAIL Q1 profit jumps 138% as margins expand despite lower volumes
Steel Authority of India reported consolidated EBITDA of ₹4,356 crore, up 49% year over year, with margins rising to 16.6% from 11.2%.
Steel Authority of India (SAIL) reported a 138% year over year jump in consolidated net profit for its June quarter, reaching ₹1,636 crore in Q1 FY27, compared with ₹685 crore a year earlier, the company said post market hours, according to LiveMint Markets.
SAIL said profitability improved despite lower production and sales volumes, helped by stronger realizations and lower inventory levels. The firm also said it moderated output during the quarter by advancing scheduled repair and maintenance work, a step it linked to geopolitical volatility disrupting global supply chains.
On profitability metrics, SAIL posted EBITDA of ₹4,356 crore, up 49% year over year, as margins expanded to 16.6% from 11.2% a year earlier. Revenue rose to ₹26,246 crore from ₹25,921 crore, though both revenue and EBITDA were down on a sequential basis.
Production and sales reflected the quarter's lower operating tempo, with crude steel output at 4.76 million tonnes versus 4.85 million tonnes a year earlier and 5.08 million tonnes in the March quarter. SAIL said sales turnover increased 1% year over year to ₹26,010 crore and cited continued resilience in domestic steel demand, as referenced by the company.
