US and UK plan London meeting to form coalition guarding Hormuz shipping

The United States and the United Kingdom are planning a high-level conference in London next week focused on forming an international coalition to protect commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, according to reporting cited by Forexlive.
The meeting could include defense ministers and senior military leaders from Western and regional countries, with US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine among potential attendees.
The initiative is described as part of Washington’s broader strategy to eventually wind down its conflict with Iran while supporting stability in global energy markets. The US is reportedly encouraging allies to contribute naval vessels, mine-clearing ships and surveillance drones to secure the shipping corridor.
Forexlive also notes that Iran has not attacked commercial vessels in the past four days following sustained US strikes along its southern coast, but officials remain divided over how much of Tehran’s capability has been degraded. Diplomatic efforts are continuing as Oman resumes talks in Tehran to establish a mechanism to safely reopen the Strait, while many countries say they would join a maritime mission only after hostilities in the waterway end.
