General Motors raises profit outlook by $500 million for 2026
GM lifted its full-year profit guidance to a $14 billion to $16 billion range, despite tariffs, higher energy costs, and inflationary pressures.
General Motors raised its full-year profit outlook by $500 million to between $14 billion and $16 billion, even as it navigates tariffs, rising energy costs and inflationary pressures, according to Yahoo Finance.
The company said the guidance increase reflects confidence that consumer demand will stay strong despite higher interest rates and macroeconomic uncertainty. GM also noted that consumers are continuing to buy new vehicles even as vehicle financing costs rise.
GM pointed to resilient demand for profitable segments, including full-size pickups and SUVs. Models cited include the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade.
Wall Street analysts remain constructive, with JPMorgan raising its price target to $120 and reiterating an Overweight rating, and Bank of America maintaining a Buy rating with a $107 target. The article also highlights GM’s valuation discount versus the S&P 500, with a forward price-to-earnings multiple of 6.2x versus 20x for the index, and describes GM’s approach of resizing EV investment plans rather than pursuing aggressive expansion into weak demand.
