Gunfire hits US consulate in Toronto, second attack in four months

Police said a bullet struck the consulate facade and a white, no-plate vehicle fled the scene before officers discontinued pursuit due to high speed.

Shots were fired early Monday at the US consulate in Toronto, marking the second shooting near the diplomatic compound in four months, Canadian police said. Toronto police said no injuries were reported, and that the consulate facade was struck by a bullet.

According to Toronto police, an officer guarding the consulate heard a gunshot around 4.45am, and shell casings were found after the area was cordoned off. Police reported seeing a white car with no licence plates leaving the scene and said a chase was quickly discontinued because of the danger posed by the suspect vehicle’s high speed.

Police have not identified any suspects, and they confirmed Toronto Police Service counterterrorism investigators are involved. The RCMP said it was too early to determine a motive, the outlet reported.
