UCITS catastrophe bond funds top $21bn in assets for first time

The UCITS cat bond sector added $1.84bn through 2026 and reached $20.76bn by end of Q2, even as 2026 maturities and early redemptions hit record levels.

UCITS catastrophe bond funds have reached more than $21 billion in assets for the first time, after adding over $1.84 billion through 2026 to date, according to Artemis.

The outlet said the sector has grown by nearly 10% in combined UCITS cat bond fund assets so far this year, with 2026 starting near $19.8 billion at the end of Q1 before growing again. Artemis reported that managers attracted more fresh capital in the second quarter, pushing combined assets to a record high of over $20.76 billion by the end of Q2, and to almost $21.06 billion in data available as of last week.

Artemis noted that growth in the sector has continued through July, even though the amount of maturities and early redemptions of cat bonds seen so far in 2026 has been the highest ever. The outlet also said the UCITS strategies are a meaningful source of risk capital for global cat bond issuance, supporting reinsurance and retrocession securitization deals.

Based on Artemis’ measure of the outstanding cat bond market, UCITS cat bond funds account for just over 32% of the market as of July 2026, up slightly from around 31% at end of Q1, and the group has grown by 140% since end of 2022.
