Fortitude brings 12 MW Zcash mining site online in Nebraska
The company said the new Grand Island facility, scheduled to go commercial, could cut its direct cash mining cost to about $40 per coin from roughly $70, assuming stable power and network conditions.
Fortitude, a Zcash mining company owned by Digital Currency Group, has brought its first greenfield data center online in Grand Island, Nebraska. The new 12-megawatt facility is expected to expand Fortitude’s owned power portfolio to more than 60 MW across seven sites, after completing construction and electrical testing, the company said.
Fortitude expects the site to lower its direct cash cost of mining Zcash by reducing electricity costs and relying on newer mining equipment. The outlet said the company projects its direct cash cost per coin could fall from about $70 to roughly $40, assuming successful equipment deployment and stable power, network, and market conditions.
The company also described the site’s power arrangement, saying it will purchase electricity for about $0.045 per kilowatt-hour. It is positioned between two solar generation facilities and next to a substation with excess capacity, which Fortitude said allows it to operate as an interruptible load to reduce consumption during peak-demand periods.
Fortitude is planning to become public via a business combination with HeartSciences, a medical technology company listed on Nasdaq under the ticker HSCS. The facility milestone comes after Fortitude launched in January 2025 after emerging from Digital Currency Group’s mining division at Foundry and built out a venture mining strategy that reinvests mining profits into new equipment and site acquisitions, according to Decrypt.
