GSK to shift R&D base to Cambridge in £400m expansion

The move will relocate more than 1,000 staff from Stevenage to a new 300,000 sq ft Cambridge center by 2029, supported by a £400m investment in sites including Ware.

GSK said it will close its main research and development hub in Stevenage and open a new R&D site in Cambridge, with a phased move of more than 1,000 staff to a 300,000 sq ft centre by 2029.

The company also said some Stevenage-based staff will move to its Ware site, which is set for an upgrade as part of a £400m investment plan over the next three years.

GSK, headquartered in London, said it expects to make sweeping cuts and redundancies across other departments to help fund the investment.

The new Cambridge R&D centre is being developed by US property group Prologis and sits within the wider Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
