India industrial output rises 7.3% in June, fastest since July 2024
Manufacturing output grew 7.8% year on year in June, while electricity generation increased 10.6%, supporting the broader industrial expansion.
India’s industrial output grew 7.3% year on year in June, the fastest pace since July 2024, according to data cited by Reuters on Tuesday. The reading beat economist expectations for growth to accelerate to 5.7% from a revised 5.0% in May.
Reuters reported that the increase was driven by strong manufacturing, supported by higher government spending and continued expansion in electricity generation. Economists polled by Reuters highlighted the print as better than expected, with one cited view expecting momentum to hold as consumption remains steady.
The same data showed manufacturing output rose 7.8% year on year in June versus a revised 5.2% in May, while electricity generation climbed 10.6% year on year compared with a revised 10.3% a month earlier. Mining output increased 1.0% year on year in June, after a revised 1.4% decline in May.
Other industrial segments also improved, with consumer durables output up 7.7% year on year in June and capital goods output rising 14.2% year on year. For the April to June quarter, industrial output grew 5.8% year on year, compared with 3.4% in the same period a year earlier, Reuters noted.
