Indonesia rupiah focus shifts after Bank Indonesia governor resignation

DBS said initial weakness in onshore assets reflects investors reassessing the impact on Rupiah stability and bonds after the governor’s exit.

DBS Group Research said Indonesia markets are watching closely after Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo’s unexpected resignation, prompting investors to reassess implications for Rupiah stability and bonds.

The research noted that onshore assets initially weakened as the market recalibrated expectations around monetary policy implementation.

DBS pointed to Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti’s appointment as acting governor, saying leadership continuity, experience, and institutional independence will be key to sustaining confidence in Indonesia’s monetary policy framework.
