Newrez lifts Q2 profit as mortgage originations rise

The lender’s Q2 pretax operating income rose to $307.6 million, and originations increased to $15.9 billion in the quarter.

Newrez, a mortgage lender and servicer, reported higher Q2 2026 pretax operating income as servicing performance improved and loan originations rose versus the prior quarter, according to HousingWire.

The company posted Q2 pretax operating income of $307.6 million, up from $273.7 million in Q1 2026, and said the result excluded a $194.5 million mark-to-market loss on mortgage servicing rights, hedge impacts and other nonoperating items.

Newrez originated $15.9 billion in mortgages in Q2, up 3.0% quarter over quarter and down 2.0% year over year, and its gain-on-sale margin increased to 1.64% from 1.44% in the prior quarter.

Looking ahead, Newrez’s parent company Rithm Capital said the lender is projected to originate about $65 billion in 2026, compared with $63.4 billion in 2025, while Newrez also reported unpaid principal balance of $865 billion at quarter end and $268 billion of third-party servicing.
