Robert Kiyosaki warns a global depression is starting
Robert Kiyosaki, the Rich Dad Poor Dad author, has renewed a warning that a “greatest depression in world history” is starting, arguing that investors should shift toward hard assets before a major downturn unfolds, according to a Yahoo Finance writeup.
In the same discussion, he pointed to economic stress across global cities, from Dubai to Vegas and from Tokyo to New York City, and warned that homelessness could spread if conditions deteriorate.
Kiyosaki also revived his “Baby Boomer Retirement Disaster” concern, saying that in 2026 millions of boomers could be out of work and in financial trouble, and that many could become homeless.
The article attributes part of his concern to changes in retirement funding over time, including the 1974 passage of ERISA, the broader move from defined-benefit pensions to defined-contribution plans such as 401(k)s, and the introduction of IRAs, which shifted more retirement responsibility to workers.
