Zimbabwe admits seven fintech projects to regulatory sandbox
Most of the newly approved participants focus on tokenization, which the regulator says is part of efforts to widen access to capital markets through blockchain-based instruments.
Zimbabwe’s securities regulator has admitted seven fintech projects to its regulatory sandbox, including tokenization-focused platforms among the latest group of approved participants, Cointelegraph reports. The Securities and Exchange Commission of Zimbabwe, SECZ, named Zimbabwe Entrepreneurship Exchange, Ndarama Standard, Questview Brokers, Crowdaxe Capital, Procode Platforms, Financial Securities Exchange, or FINSEC, and Colmin Resources Zimbabwe as sandbox participants.
Under SECZ’s Regulatory Sandbox Guidelines, admission allows projects to run controlled tests under regulatory supervision. However, even if a project completes testing successfully, the sandbox placement does not automatically translate into authorization to operate commercially.
SECZ said participants must still satisfy the regulator’s full registration requirements before starting commercial operations. The regulator characterized the tokenization-heavy cohort as reflecting increased interest in using blockchain-based instruments to broaden access to capital markets and to route assets that may otherwise be difficult to trade into regulated investment structures.
The news comes with a key practical caveat for applicants, sandbox testing is supervised and does not guarantee eventual registration for live, commercial services, according to Cointelegraph.
