Conduit Re cuts North Atlantic hurricane PML with mid-year retro changes
After July 1, Conduit Re lowered its 100-year PML to 8% of TNAV, down from 14% at Jan. 1, 2025, as it increased core retro limits and aggregate cover.
Conduit Re has enhanced its retrocession program around the mid-year 2026 renewal season, following earlier efforts to strengthen protection against major catastrophes and secondary perils, Artemis reports. In first-half results, the reinsurer said it continued rebalancing its property portfolio toward excess of loss business and added management and property team hires, including a COO. Conduit Re also emphasized that it put in place an enhanced retrocession program to reduce underwriting volatility and provide earnings and balance sheet protection, even as the market is described as softening.
The company said the changes reduced its exposure to North Atlantic hurricane risk, lowering its 100-year probable maximum loss to 8% of TNAV after July 1. Artemis notes that this metric was cut to 10% at January 1, 2026, from 14% at January 1, 2025.
Conduit Re said it focused on reducing net exposure to both peak catastrophe and secondary peril loss events, including by buying increased core retro limit and aggregate coverage. Artemis also states that the program included protection against second and third events as part of the updated retrocession structure.
