ECB policymaker warns oil price persistence could lift euro zone inflation

EUR/USD was little changed after the remarks, trading around 1.1395 as the ECB weighs the inflation outlook against policy uncertainty.

European Central Bank policymaker Christodoulos Patsalides, also governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus, warned that if higher oil prices persist, inflation risks could accelerate in the euro zone. The comments were made during the European trading session on Wednesday, according to FXStreet.

Patsalides also said he was unsure how upcoming September data will shape the monetary policy outlook, highlighting uncertainty around the timing of any policy response.

FXStreet reported there was no immediate impact on the euro following the remarks. At press time, EUR/USD was trading marginally higher at around 1.1395.
