Lancashire profit rises to $141.7M in first half of 2026
The reinsurer’s undiscounted combined ratio improved to 90.8%, down from 97.8% in H1 2025.
Lancashire Holdings Limited reported profit after tax of $141.7 million in the first half of 2026, up 30% year on year, as its undiscounted combined ratio improved to 90.8% from 97.8% a year earlier, according to Reinsurance News.
Gross premiums written fell to $1.315 billion in the six month period, from $1.356 billion in H1 2025. Reinsurance gross premiums written declined to $749 million from $816 million, partially offset by an increase in insurance gross premiums written to $566 million from $541 million.
The company said insurance revenue was flat at $930 million for H1 2026, as a reduction in reinsurance revenue to $437 million was offset by higher insurance revenue of $493 million. Lancashire also reported a 83.0% gross premiums earned as a percentage of gross premiums written for 2026, compared with 81.9% for 2025, citing increased premium earnings from prior underwriting years.
Lancashire posted net losses from catastrophe, weather and large loss events of $60.1 million in H1 2026, while saying none of those losses was individually material to the group. It also reported favorable prior accident year loss development of $21.8 million for the undiscounted net movement in loss reserves, versus $109.1 million released in the same period of 2025.
