Microsoft rolls out OneDrive Photos app with AI search and optional face grouping
The feature is delivered via Windows Update or OneDrive client updates, and users can only remove it by uninstalling OneDrive.
Microsoft is rolling out a new OneDrive Photos app to some Windows 11 PCs, adding AI-powered search and an optional facial grouping feature, according to Decrypt.
The app indexes local photo libraries and can surface images stored on a device, even when a user is not signed into a Microsoft account, Decrypt reported.
After sign-in, OneDrive Photos offers AI search that supports natural-language queries and can also use optical character recognition, Decrypt said.
A People feature groups similar faces that are visible only to the user, can be deleted by disabling the option, and requires opt-in because facial data may be considered biometric information in some jurisdictions, Decrypt noted.
