Russia’s FSB says Pavel Durov is wanted internationally over terrorism links
The FSB says Telegram did not remove channels, chats, and bots it alleges were used by Ukrainian intelligence services and terrorist and extremist groups to coordinate attacks and recruit operatives.
Russia’s Federal Security Service says Telegram founder Pavel Durov has been charged with facilitating terrorist activity and placed on an international wanted list, according to Cointelegraph citing an Interfax report.
The FSB alleges that Telegram failed to remove channels, chats, and bots used, as it claims, by Ukrainian intelligence services, terrorist groups, and extremist organizations to coordinate attacks, recruit operatives, and conduct cyber fraud.
Cointelegraph notes the development follows earlier reporting in February that Russian authorities opened a criminal case against Durov. At the time, Durov confirmed the case in an X post and accused Russian authorities of using the investigation to pressure Telegram.
Separately, Durov faces an ongoing criminal investigation in France over alleged illegal activity on Telegram, though Cointelegraph says French authorities lifted travel restrictions earlier this year, allowing him to leave the country.
