Tether signs MoU with Nairobi Securities Exchange for tokenized securities

The memorandum includes assessing instant settlement options and potential use of USDT as a digital settlement layer under Kenyan regulations.

Tether has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nairobi Securities Exchange to explore blockchain-based market infrastructure and tokenized securities, according to a Tuesday announcement cited by Cointelegraph.

The parties said the plan covers digital asset education and real-world asset tokenization, including the potential use of Tether’s Hadron tokenization platform for issuing and trading tokenized securities.

The memorandum also calls for evaluating instant settlement mechanisms and whether USDT can be used as a digital settlement infrastructure layer, where permitted under Kenyan regulations.

The deal arrives as tokenized real-world assets continue to expand, with RWA.xyz estimating onchain value of about $36.8 billion excluding stablecoins, and tracking nearly $298 billion in stablecoins. Cointelegraph also notes USDT has a market capitalization of roughly $184 billion.
