AMD leases up to 2.5 GW of Core Scientific capacity for AI colocation

AMD will lease up to 2.5 gigawatts of high-density colocation capacity from Core Scientific to support end-user artificial intelligence deployments, using former crypto mining sites as AI data center infrastructure. The agreement centers on a 530-megawatt deployment across five Core Scientific sites, with the capacity secured through long-term 15-year institutional lease agreements.

Core Scientific said the leases include three consecutive five-year extension options. Instead of relying on the more volatile revenue model of generating digital currency, the company aims to shift its physical footprint into a contracted-revenue platform with more predictable cash flows, while also diversifying tenants during site retrofits.

As the initial rollout includes a 152-megawatt high-density allocation for Neocloud alongside a primary 377-megawatt lease for AMD, Core Scientific noted the approach is intended to create a more stable revenue floor amid the transition.
