Schumer proposes anti-corruption bureau targeting Trump crypto ties
The bill would seek authority to investigate, enforce, and prevent executive branch corruption, and includes a pathway for citizens and states to recover alleged stolen funds.
Senator Chuck Schumer has introduced legislation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau Creation Act, that would create an agency with power to investigate, enforce, and prevent executive branch corruption, according to Cointelegraph. The bill points to Schumer's characterization of Donald Trump’s disclosures in 2025, including earnings of more than $2 billion from investments, with $1.4 billion tied to crypto. Cointelegraph also says Schumer cited that Trump’s family has more than $1 billion in a crypto fund linked to foreign governments. In describing the proposal, Schumer said the bureau would include enforcement authority and a bipartisan group of seven members to be confirmed by the Senate, Cointelegraph reported. The legislation would also allow private citizens and state authorities to recover funds that Schumer said were stolen from Americans through corruption. Cointelegraph added that Trump’s ties to the cryptocurrency industry have been a sticking point for Democrats considering support for the Digital Asset Market Clarity, or CLARITY, Act, while noting that the White House agreed to certain ethics provisions that some lawmakers say do not go far enough to address potential conflicts of interest.
