Tillis and Gallego finalize ethics approach for crypto Clarity Act

The bipartisan plan targets a White House approved ethics section aimed at limiting senior officials from direct ties to crypto projects, with Senate action potentially needed before August recess.

CoinDesk reports that Senators Thom Tillis, a Republican, and Ruben Gallego, a Democrat, have finalized their approach for the ethics portion of the crypto “Clarity Act,” though the underlying details have not been released.

The effort began after it became apparent the White House approved conflicts of interest language for senior U.S. officials would not satisfy most Democrats, with the lawmakers working to produce a compromise they hope can win sufficient support.

People briefed on the negotiations said the revised language is meant to curb direct connections between senior government officials and cryptocurrency projects, and the bill’s path could depend on how the new draft is received.

The ethics push is described as centered on President Donald Trump’s crypto business interests, after Trump agreed to accept a narrow version of the concept that drew both praise from the White House and criticism from Democratic opponents, and sources say additional approvals would still be required from the White House and Democrats before the bill can reach a vote in the Senate this year, ahead of the August recess.
