EDX Markets raises $76M in Series C led by SBI Holdings
The funding will support expansion of EDX’s trading, clearing and settlement capabilities, plus product development and global operations.
EDX Markets, an institutional-only crypto trading venue that runs its own central clearinghouse, has closed a $76 million Series C funding round led by SBI Holdings, according to The Defiant. SBI Holdings, a Tokyo-listed financial group, is becoming a strategic investor in the U.S. exchange. EDX said the capital will be used to expand its trading, clearing, and settlement capabilities, along with product development and global operations. EDX Markets CEO Tony Acuña-Rohter said the investment strengthens the exchange’s ability to deliver institutional-grade capabilities and market access for digital assets at scale. The Defiant also notes SBI Holdings has been building crypto infrastructure, including launching JPYSC, described as Japan’s first trust bank-backed yen stablecoin. The Series C follows other institutional-focused moves by EDX, including filing an application with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish EDX Trust for regulated custody, clearing, and settlement, and launching EDX FlowConnect, a crypto-as-a-service product that lets firms build their own digital asset trading offerings, per The Defiant. EDX operates an institution-only spot venue with a clearinghouse designed to settle trades daily and reduce bilateral counterparty exposure between members.
