Rivian pushes for 2026 delivery growth as R2 ramps
The EV maker expects annual deliveries to rise to 62,000-67,000 vehicles in 2026 from 42,247 in 2025, with R2 targeted to lift production and help gross margins via clean energy credits.
Rivian is betting that the ramp of its new R2 SUV can help revive growth expectations after its stock has fallen sharply since its 2021 IPO, according to analysis by The Motley Fool.
The company previously produced the R1T pickup and R1S SUV, along with custom electric delivery vans for Amazon and other businesses, before launching the cheaper R2 in March to expand its addressable market.
Rivian said its delivery slowdown in 2024 and 2025 reflected supply chain constraints, reduced EV subsidies, and broader macro and competitive headwinds, but it expects deliveries to increase from 42,247 vehicles in 2025 to 62,000-67,000 vehicles in 2026.
The analysis adds that Rivian expects the delivery acceleration to be driven by the R2, which it says costs less to manufacture than its other vehicles despite the lower price, and that it will continue selling clean energy credits to stabilize gross margins as operating expenses rise.
