AMD stock could see a lift ahead of Aug. 4 earnings

Wall Street sentiment rose after shares jumped 13% on July 30 following a price-target increase, with expectations centered on stronger server CPU demand.

Advanced Micro Devices is heading into its Aug. 4 release of Q2 FY2026 results after a sharp rally in recent sessions, as investors look for signs that AI driven chip demand is translating into sustained growth. Yahoo Finance notes the stock has climbed 340.8% over the past five years, outpacing the Nasdaq Composite's 69.3% gain over the same period.

Confidence got another boost on July 30, when AMD shares rose 13% in a single trading session. Yahoo Finance attributes the move to Susquehanna analyst Christopher Rolland raising his price target, citing expectations for stronger Q2 results led by robust server CPU demand and additional support from higher personal computer production.

The bullish view also extends to AMD's AI hardware lineup, including its Instinct MI series AI accelerators and rack-scale platforms. Yahoo Finance says Rolland expects these offerings to build further momentum after deployment agreements with OpenAI, Meta Platforms, and Anthropic.

Ahead of earnings, AMD management has suggested its AI business could generate tens of billions in sales by 2027, according to Yahoo Finance. The same outlet reports Rolland is upbeat about AMD's EPYC server CPUs after CEO Lisa Su lifted total addressable market guidance to roughly $220 billion by the end of the decade, making the Aug. 4 quarter a key test for those expectations.
