Balfour Beatty to build 2,217-bed UF student housing community

The first phase will deliver more than 680,000 square feet and is designed to reduce UF’s student housing waiting list of more than 1,000 students.

Balfour Beatty, working in a 65:35 joint venture with Stellar Group, is partnering with the University of Florida to build a new student housing community that will add 2,217 beds across four residential buildings totaling more than 680,000 square feet, according to ConnectCRE.

The project is Phase 1 of a longer plan to add 10,000 new student beds over the next 10 years, a $2 billion-plus initiative that the UF Board of Trustees approved.

ConnectCRE said the project includes amenities such as a café and Amazon Market, a multipurpose event space, study and collaboration areas, and social gathering spaces.

Construction is already underway, with two buildings scheduled for completion in Fall 2028 and the remaining two expected to open in late Fall 2028, ConnectCRE added.
