Iran denies plans for talks delegation with the US in coming days
The Iranian foreign ministry said Tehran expects the status quo to persist on the Strait of Hormuz, despite US claims that a deal has been reached.
Forexlive reports that an Iran foreign ministry spokesperson said there is no plan for a delegation to meet with the US in the coming days.
The outlet said the spokesperson dismissed US President Trump’s assertion that a deal has been done, arguing that Iran views the claim as not meaningful and expects conditions to remain largely unchanged on the Strait of Hormuz.
Forexlive also noted that Iran said it will retain control of the strait, with only a slight increase in traffic possible, and warned that the sides could fall back into the same pattern seen after a memorandum of understanding was signed at the end of June.
The report tied ongoing Iranian threats to security in the strait to the earlier breakdown of a ceasefire deal, suggesting a similar outcome could repeat.
