Wildfire-exposed cat bond issuance nears 2025 record in 2026

So far in 2026, $5.183 billion of catastrophe bonds with wildfire exposure have settled across 20 series, already close to the 2025 full-year $5.55 billion mark.

The catastrophe bond market has accelerated its support for wildfire risk in 2026, with risk capital deployed to wildfire-exposed cat bonds reaching $5.183 billion year-to-date, according to Artemis.

That level is nearing the full-year record of $5.55 billion for wildfire-exposed catastrophe bonds seen in 2025, after issuance climbed from $2.57 billion in 2023 to $2.84 billion in 2024, and then surged in 2025 to the record.

Through the first half of 2026 pipeline, the figure comes from 20 individual cat bond series that have been issued with some element of wildfire exposure, including multiple mid-year deals that settled in early July.

Artemis said the trend is also broadening reinsurance capacity, with both multi-peril deals and standalone wildfire cat bonds increasing, and cited growing familiarity with wildfire peril and confidence in risk models as drivers of investor participation.
