Anthem Georgia renews radiology in-network contract with Northside

The multi-year agreement covers employer plans, individual policies, Medicaid, and Medicare Advantage members, supporting in-network access to radiology across Georgia for more than 3.3 million Anthem members.

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia has signed a multi-year agreement to keep radiology services in-network for its members with Northside Radiology Associates, the companies announced. The renewal extends in-network coverage for employer-sponsored plans, individual coverage, Medicaid, and Medicare Advantage plan members.

Anthem, the largest health insurer in Georgia, covers more than 3.3 million members, about one-third of the state's population, according to eHealth. Northside Radiology Associates, a Georgia-based physician practice and affiliate of Radiology Partners, provides diagnostic imaging and other radiology services at hospitals and outpatient facilities across the state.

Industry Business reports that Anthem said the availability of radiology helps patients receive timely diagnoses. Northside Radiology Associates said the agreement is intended to support reliable access to high-quality radiology services for hospitals, physicians, and patients across Georgia.

The deal comes against a backdrop of prior network tensions in Georgia involving Anthem. In late 2021 and early 2022, Anthem and Northside Hospital were unable to agree on reimbursement rates, putting roughly 400,000 patients at risk of losing in-network access, before a Fulton County Superior Court injunction kept the contract in place and negotiations ultimately ended in mid-2022.
