Alight launches GLP-1 health reimbursement account option for employers
The new Alight GLP-1 HRA is positioned as a defined-contribution alternative as large employers reduce coverage, with Business Group on Health data showing GLP-1 agonist coverage fell from 72% in 2025 to 60% in 2026.
Alight, a Deerfield, Illinois-based benefits administration company serving more than 30 million people, has launched a GLP-1 health reimbursement account product for employers adjusting weight management coverage as costs mount.
According to Insurance Business, the Alight GLP-1 HRA is designed to let employers reimburse employees for eligible GLP-1 drug costs through a fixed, employer-funded structure, rather than open-ended coverage embedded in the core health plan.
The offering is structured to operate alongside health savings accounts and high-deductible health plan combinations in line with Internal Revenue Service rules, and it allows employers to set eligibility criteria, contribution limits, and funding models, including utilization-based and pay-as-you-go options.
Insurance Business also cites Business Group on Health survey results covering 127 large employers, showing the share providing GLP-1 agonists for weight management dropped from 72% in 2025 to 60% in 2026, and that 14% had already dropped or were planning to drop the coverage by 2027.
