Bharti Airtel revenue beats estimates but profit misses in Q1
Consolidated revenue rose 18.4% year on year to ₹58,539 crore, while net profit grew 37.3% to ₹8,167 crore but fell short of the ₹8,699 crore consensus.
Bharti Airtel Ltd reported June quarter results that topped analyst revenue estimates, driven by stronger growth across its premium mobile, enterprise, and home broadband units, though profitability came in below expectations. LiveMint Markets said the company’s consolidated revenue from operations climbed 18.4% year on year to ₹58,539 crore, exceeding an estimate of ₹56,896 crore.
The telecom operator’s consolidated net profit increased 37.3% to ₹8,167 crore, but it missed the ₹8,699 crore consensus figure. The company also reported one-time pressure at its Africa unit, including a ₹353 crore charge, alongside higher depreciation and tax expenses.
Operating performance improved, with EBITDA rising 19.3% year on year to ₹33,599 crore, which the company attributed to revenue growth. Bharti Airtel said average revenue per user rose to ₹264 during the quarter from ₹250 a year earlier, supported by higher smartphone penetration, greater data use, and customer upgrades to premium plans.
Airtel added 3.3 million mobile subscribers in the quarter, taking its wireless base to 376.5 million. LiveMint Markets reported that including FTTH, machine-to-machine, and wireline connections, the total customer base rose to 491.9 million from 482 million in the prior quarter, and the stock closed 0.8% lower at ₹1,955.10 on Tuesday after the results were announced.
