Former FBI supervisor pleads guilty to $1M crypto theft
Prosecutors said the defendant used internal systems to access credentials for wallets linked to an adversarial country and transferred about $925,000 after cooperation with investigators.
A former FBI supervisory agent has pleaded guilty to stealing about $1 million worth of digital assets from cryptocurrency wallets linked to an adversarial country, according to a US Federal court filing reported by Cointelegraph.
Cointelegraph reports that Patrick Steven Yaroch used internal systems to obtain credentials for those wallets, then made 10 unauthorized transfers between late 2024 and early 2025. Some of the stolen crypto was deposited into Suilend to earn yield, the filing said.
After self-reporting the incident, Yaroch was placed on administrative leave, then terminated and arrested, Cointelegraph added. Agents later retrieved devices, seed phrases and a Trezor wallet from his Virginia residence to access his Suilend and Kraken accounts.
With his cooperation, investigators transferred roughly $925,000 in funds to government-controlled wallets, Cointelegraph reported. The outlet also noted similar past cases involving federal agents who pleaded guilty to crypto theft tied to the Silk Road investigation.
