Hong Kong retail sales grew 4.6% in June, extending 14-month streak
Retail sales totaled HK$31.5 billion (US$4.01 billion) in June, while jewelry, watches, clocks and valuable gifts led growth with a 20.1% year over year increase.
Hong Kong retail sales rose 4.6% year over year in June, extending the city’s growth streak to 14 months, according to provisional figures from the Census and Statistics Department released Tuesday, as reported by SCMP Economy.
The value of June retail sales reached HK$31.5 billion, or US$4.01 billion, and first-half retail sales increased 9.6% versus the same period in 2025.
SCMP Economy notes that a government spokesman pointed to continued economic expansion, rising local incomes, and a steady increase in inbound visitors as support for the sector, while also flagging external uncertainties as a downside risk.
Within the categories, jewelry, watches, clocks and valuable gifts posted the strongest gain, up 20.1% year over year in June, followed by electrical and other consumer durables, which rose 11.3%. Other consumer goods not elsewhere classified grew 9.3%, furniture and fixtures increased 5.1%, and books, newspapers, stationery and gifts rose 2.6%.
