SEC Commissioner Peirce backs effort to pass Clarity Act
Peirce said that if the legislation passes, the SEC would have an easier time drafting crypto rules, including clearer authority over the spot market.
SEC outgoing commissioner Hester Peirce said she is optimistic the long awaited Clarity Act, a proposed U.S. crypto market structure law, will pass before the Senate recess. Speaking on CoinDesk’s The Policy Protocol, Peirce said the bill’s passage would help regulators, lawmakers, industry and investors move forward with a clearer regulatory approach.
Peirce linked the expected benefit to clearer lines of authority over the crypto spot market, which she said would give an easier path forward for rulemaking. She also noted that even if the Clarity Act does not pass, regulators could still develop parts of a framework for crypto fundraising activity.
The article says lawmakers are pushing for a vote on the crypto market structure bill before the Senate goes to recess, with four days remaining. It also says the Clarity Act has been in deadlock for much of 2026, partly due to banking lobby concerns about crypto companies allowing clients to earn stablecoin yield.
The source adds that an updated version of the bill introduced in July addresses ethics concerns by banning government officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto. It also references Peirce’s “crypto mom” nickname and contrasts her outlook with the SEC’s prior posture under ex chair Gary Gensler.
