Ariel Small Cap Value Fund outperformed peers in Q2 2026

The fund reported 17.2% gross and 17.0% net returns for the quarter, roughly in line with the Russell 2000 Value Index but behind the benchmark’s 21.5% gain.

Ariel Investments said its Small Cap Value Tax-Exempt Composite rose 17.19% gross and 17.04% net in Q2 2026, roughly matching the Russell 2000 Value Index over the period but trailing the benchmark’s 21.49% return, according to the firm’s Q2 2026 investor letter shared on Yahoo Finance.

The letter attributes the rebound to easing geopolitical tensions, lower oil prices, resilient earnings, and renewed strength in technology and AI-related stocks, with stock selection also contributing to results.

Ariel said it is entering the second half with a measured outlook, citing uneven global growth, geopolitical risks, persistent inflation, and elevated borrowing costs as potential sources of volatility.

Within the portfolio, the letter highlighted Masco Corporation as one of its featured stocks, noting the company makes branded home improvement and building products including plumbing, decorative architectural products, and residential offerings. Yahoo Finance also cited Masco’s recent trading range and market cap, including a July 31, 2026 close around $72.11 per share and an approximately $14.095 billion market capitalization.
