Cayman licensing data shows 6 new international insurer licences in Q2
CIMA said the approvals bring 2026 new international insurance licences to 20, with 17 more applications under review, while Cayman insurers now write about $61 billion in premiums.
The Insurance Managers Association of Cayman said it sees continued momentum in the jurisdiction’s international insurance market after the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority released its licensing statistics for the second quarter of 2026.
CIMA’s data shows six new international insurer licences were granted in the three months to June 30, 2026, all in the class B(i) category, plus three additional Portfolio Insurance Companies, bringing the total number of new international insurance licences issued in 2026 to date to 20.
CIMA also reported that 17 licence applications are currently under review, a sign IMAC called promising for activity later in 2026.
IMAC cited that Cayman is now home to 721 licensed class B, C and D insurers, writing in the region of $61 billion in premiums and holding about $190 billion in combined assets, with growth since the first quarter of roughly $10 billion in premium income and $14 billion in total assets.
