Mastercard pilots crypto credential for cross-border stablecoin payments

The pilot begins with live transactions, starting with Infinia, Walapay and Koywe, and aims to address compliance verification that grows each time a new provider is added.

Mastercard is piloting its Mastercard Crypto Credential, a verification system for digital asset transactions, with Borderless.xyz for cross-border stablecoin payments, the companies said.

The pilot targets a key bottleneck in stablecoin payment networks, where each new counterparty relationship typically requires another round of compliance verification. Mastercard said Crypto Credential is designed to provide standardized assurance signals so other participants can rely on that verification rather than rerunning checks.

Borderless.xyz described the effort as applying a “correspondent banking” approach to digital asset payments, with originating compliance trusted downstream. Borderless.xyz said it runs a stablecoin orchestration network that connects wallet infrastructure to more than 15 licensed stablecoin providers across over 100 countries through a single API.

The pilot starts Wednesday with live transactions, and it has no set end date. Borderless.xyz said whether it moves to production will depend on the number of providers participating and the volume transacted, and that stablecoin network participants joining the pilot include Infinia, Walapay and Koywe.
