Sen. Lummis pushes CLARITY crypto market bill before August recess
The Senate would need 60 votes for cloture, and as of Wednesday no vote was shown on Democrats’ calendars.
US lawmakers are racing to schedule a vote on a comprehensive crypto market structure bill before the Senate enters its month-long August recess, which could delay consideration well into the 2026 election cycle, according to Cointelegraph.
In a Wednesday X post, Senator Cynthia Lummis said she expects the Senate to vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity, or CLARITY, Act before the chamber breaks. The bill has been under consideration in the Senate since it passed the House in July 2025 by a 294 to 134 margin.
The CLARITY Act remains divisive, with opposition centered on provisions that cover ethics, stablecoins, and tokenized equities. Cointelegraph reports that some Senate Democrats want stronger ethics measures tied to US President Donald Trump’s investments, including scrutiny after Trump disclosed earnings of more than $1.4 billion from investments tied to digital assets in 2025.
As of Wednesday, Senate Democrats’ calendar showed no CLARITY vote scheduled, leaving only a few business days to act. Cointelegraph adds that Senate Majority Leader John Thune is reportedly still planning to schedule a vote before Saturday, and the bill would require 60 votes to invoke cloture and end a filibuster, while at least one Republican, Josh Hawley, has said he will withhold support until concerns from banks are addressed.
