Paytm jumps to 52-week high after Elevation Capital cuts stakes in block deal
Elevation Capital and affiliates sold 1.49 crore Paytm shares for about ₹2,038.0 crore, while the National Pension System Trust became the largest buyer.
Paytm shares rose more than 1% to a 52-week high on August 6, even after early investor Elevation Capital and affiliated entities reduced their holdings through a block transaction worth over ₹2,038 crore, according to LiveMint Markets citing exchange data.
Elevation Capital V sold 10.20 lakh shares for ₹139.55 crore, SAIF III Mauritius Company offloaded 97.43 lakh shares worth ₹1,332.7 crore, and SAIF Partners India IV sold 41.36 lakh shares valued at ₹565.77 crore, bringing total divestment to 1.49 crore shares for ₹2,038.02 crore.
On the buying side, the National Pension System Trust emerged as the largest acquirer, purchasing 30.2 lakh shares worth ₹413.07 crore. Axis Mutual Fund bought 27 lakh shares worth ₹369.3 crore, with additional buyers including Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Société Générale, BNP Paribas Financial Markets, and several Indian asset managers and investors.
The move comes after Paytm reported its highest-ever quarterly EBITDA for the quarter ended June 2026, with operating revenue up 28.0% year over year to ₹2,448 crore and EBITDA up 182.0% year over year to ₹203 crore, along with a higher EBITDA margin of 8.0%. Profit after tax rose 79.0% year over year to ₹220 crore, and merchant GMV grew 31.0% year over year to ₹7.1 lakh crore.
