American workforce shrinks by over 1 million in the past year

A July jobs report showed fewer Americans are working or looking for jobs than any time since the pandemic.

MarketWatch reports that the size of the American workforce has fallen by more than 1 million people over the past year, according to a July jobs report.

The outlet says the share of Americans who are working or looking for a job has declined to the lowest level since the pandemic.

MarketWatch adds that the report underscores a deterioration in labor market participation, with the latest figures coming in below prior year levels.
