Coldcard exploit drives July crypto thefts to $247.4M
DefiLlama data shows July losses were more than triple June’s $75M and at least $115M was linked to the Coldcard exploit, according to its hack tracker.
Cointelegraph reports that crypto thefts reached $247.4 million in July, making it the second-worst month of 2026 for stolen funds.
The outlet links the surge largely to the Coldcard exploit, which caused more than $100 million in losses and, based on Galaxy Digital, involved at least 7,300 wallets across three confirmed attack waves, with a possible fourth wave that could push total losses to about $130 million.
DefiLlama’s hack tracker estimates losses tied to the Coldcard incident at $115 million. It also notes that July’s total was more than triple the $75 million stolen in June and follows $644 million stolen in April.
Other exploits in July included a $9 million hack of DeFi protocol Bonzo Lend, $2.6 million stolen from Cardano-based wallet SecondFi, $24 million taken from the Arbitrum-based perpetual exchange AFX, and $7.5 million stolen via the Verus Ethereum Bridge, according to Cointelegraph.
