Senate pushes off vote on crypto Clarity Act until September
Senate Majority Leader John Thune said there will be no Clarity vote in August, with the chamber set to return Sept. 14 for a three-week window to address the bill.
The U.S. Senate will not hold a vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act before it leaves for the rest of August, according to CoinDesk. Senate Majority Leader John Thune confirmed through a spokesperson that no vote will occur this month, though lawmakers are targeting action next month.
The Senate is scheduled to return to Washington, D.C., on Sept. 14, with three weeks to work through outstanding issues on the crypto market structure legislation. CoinDesk reports senators from both parties still had major unresolved concerns that prevented an August vote.
CoinDesk also notes the Senate will spend August on other items, including votes on a continuing resolution to fund the federal government through the midterm election, a Russia sanctions bill championed by Senator Lindsey Graham, and a set of nominations on the last day before the scheduled recess.
Industry groups criticized the delay while signaling continued push for passage in September. Digital Chamber CEO Cody Carbone said the work to find common ground is continuing ahead of Congress returning, while Crypto Council for Innovation CEO Ji Hun Kim called the pause disappointing and warned that delays could push American users and builders offshore.
