US Senate set to vote on CLARITY crypto bill before August recess

The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act would need 60 votes to pass the Senate, with lawmakers weighing issues around crypto oversight and stablecoin-related licensing.

The US Senate is expected to vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act before lawmakers leave for an August recess, according to Cointelegraph. Senator Tim Scott, who chairs the Senate Banking Committee, said the chamber “should have the first vote” on the bill before the recess window closes.

Scott, in a Fox Business interview, said Senate Majority Leader John Thune still has time to schedule a cloture vote in the next few days to move the bill through the floor. Other statements cited in the story include Senator Cynthia Lummis urging the Senate to take up a CLARITY vote before the recess.

Cointelegraph reports that passage in the Senate would require 60 lawmakers to support the bill. The article also notes remaining discussion points, including concerns raised by some Democrats about President Donald Trump’s crypto investments, and requests from banking industry leaders that the bill address licensing and restrictions for crypto companies dealing with stablecoins.
