Amazon confirms plans to finance Texas gas power plant for data centers
The facility, known as GW Ranch, would have 35 turbines and is designed to generate 7.6 gigawatts, according to permit filings reviewed through satellite imagery.
Amazon has confirmed it is financing a large private gas power plant in Texas that is intended to support nearby data center operations, highlighting how tech companies are turning to energy off the grid for faster AI scaling.
The project, identified as GW Ranch and being developed by Pacifico Energy, has been linked to data center permit filings reviewed by market intelligence company Cleanview using satellite imagery.
Previously filed permits indicate the Texas plant would feature 35 turbines and generate 7.65 gigawatts, which would be larger than any gas plant currently operating in the United States.
The source material also notes a separate, larger 9.2 gigawatt gas facility planned in Ohio under a public-private partnership involving SoftBank.
