Coca-Cola raises full-year outlook after World Cup boosts in Q2
Second-quarter net revenue rose 7% to $13.4 billion, while Zero Sugar volume jumped 16% and Coca-Cola said hydration-break marketing generated tens of millions of first-party data records.
Coca-Cola turned its World Cup sponsorship into an unusually strong quarter, with management reporting volume, revenue, and profit that accelerated together and raising its full-year outlook for the second time this year, according to Yahoo Finance citing the company’s earnings materials and Reuters coverage. In the second quarter, net revenue climbed 7% to $13.4 billion. Comparable earnings per share increased 11% to 97 cents, topping Wall Street expectations by five cents, and global unit case volume grew 5%, a pace the company said it has not matched in years outside pandemic recovery comparisons. The growth was not limited to older core products. Zero Sugar volume rose 16% in the quarter, Diet Coke volume increased 7%, and Trademark Coca-Cola grew 5%, its strongest pace in 17 years outside pandemic-related swings. Powerade volume jumped 8%, with the company attributing some of that strength to in-stadium placement during the tournament’s hydration breaks. Executives also linked the campaign to improved customer data collection. CFO John Murphy told Reuters the company was “not unhappy” with how the hydration breaks played out for Powerade, and the company said the effort generated tens of millions of new first-party customer data records during the period, while one analyst questioned whether any World Cup-driven demand will persist beyond the event.
