UnitedHealth pledges $4M to expand Tennessee health hub network
The expansion would grow the University of Tennessee Health Sciences hub network from 5 locations to 13 by end-2027, reaching an expected 200,000 Tennessee residents.
UnitedHealth Group said it will commit $4 million, funded through the United Health Foundation, to expand the University of Tennessee Health Sciences health hub network across Tennessee.
The plan would increase the hub footprint from 5 locations to 13 by the end of 2027, with the buildout expected to reach about 200,000 Tennessee residents.
The announcement comes as UnitedHealth continues a turnaround after last year’s business troubles. In 2025, its medical care ratio, the share of premiums spent on claims, rose to 88.9% from 85.5% in 2024, while operating earnings fell from $32 billion to $19 billion.
In the second quarter, the ratio improved to 86.7%, versus analysts’ expectation of 88.5%, and management guided to an 88% medical care ratio for full-year results. In that quarter, UnitedHealth reported revenue of $112.0 billion, above analysts’ $110.9 billion estimate, and adjusted EPS of $6.38 compared with a $4.90 consensus, then raised its full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $19.50 to $20 from a prior forecast of $18.25.
