AXA XL Re hires two senior underwriters for Marine & Energy
The appointments add Lloyd’s and complex marine coverage experience to AXA XL Reinsurance’s London-based Marine and Energy treaty team.
AXA XL Reinsurance, part of AXA XL, has appointed Stephen Barnard and Callum Higgins as Senior Underwriters in its Marine & Energy Reinsurance team.
Barnard officially joined AXA XL Re on 10 August 2026, bringing 12 years of Lloyd’s underwriting experience across Marine and Energy treaty business, including work supporting a diversified global portfolio across proportional and non-proportional contracts.
Higgins joined the firm on 13 July 2026 and has experience leading complex portfolios tied to Marine War, Cargo War, Marine Piracy, and Kidnap & Ransom coverage.
Both underwriters are based in London and report to Julian Longbottom, Global Head of Marine and Energy, as AXA XL Reinsurance said the moves strengthen its underwriting expertise and portfolio management for key markets.
