Canopius appoints Rebecca Simeone as US Chief Risk Officer

Simeone is set to join on 8 September 2026 and will help further develop Canopius' risk management framework as the firm expands in the US.

Canopius Group, a global specialty and property and casualty re/insurer, has appointed Rebecca Simeone as its new US Chief Risk Officer. She will join the company on 8 September 2026 and be based in New York.

Simeone will report to incoming US CEO Nadine Moore and Group Chief Risk Officer Sheldon Lacy, and she will become a member of the US Executive Committee. Her role will include further developing Canopius’ risk management framework as the business continues to expand in the region.

Canopius said Simeone brings more than 20 years of experience in insurance and financial services, most recently at Beazley where she oversaw financial, operational, and regulatory risks across North America and Bermuda. Her responsibilities there included emerging risk assessments and engagement with insurance authorities.

In statements, Canopius’ acting US CEO Lindsay Astor said the appointment reflects investment in scaling the US business, emphasizing risk and governance foundations. Canopius’ Group Chief Risk Officer Sheldon Lacy added that Simeone’s experience in enterprise governance is expected to strengthen exposure management and forward-looking insights.
