CoinSpot parent sues ex-employee over alleged theft of $478,932
Court filings say the former customer support worker made 76 transfers into a personal bank account over two years to March, and the case is set to resume in September.
Australia’s CoinSpot is involved in a lawsuit after its parent company, Casey Block Services, filed claims against a former customer support employee over alleged theft, according to TheStreet.
The court documents say Iresh Pawan Perera moved $478,932 out of the exchange into his personal bank account through 76 transactions in the two years to March, and the filing alleges he converted CoinSpot digital currency for his own use by exchanging it into cash.
Perera’s employment was terminated immediately on March 9, with the company citing material breaches of his employment agreement. The company is seeking damages of $478,932 plus interest, and the case will resume in September.
A CoinSpot spokeswoman said the exchange cannot provide further details while the matter is before the court, adding that CoinSpot has not had customer funds impacted on its platform and that it enforces safeguards to protect customer holdings. The outlet reports Perera has not yet filed a defence.
