Credit card balances rise to $1.26 trillion, New York Fed finds

Credit card debt is rising mid-year, reaching $1.26 trillion, according to new household-debt research from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York cited by CNBC Markets.

The report points to a persistent “K-shaped” divide in how debt is showing up across households, with balances ticking higher even as the underlying distribution remains unequal.

CNBC Markets said the findings come from the Fed’s analysis of household borrowing conditions, highlighting continued pressure in revolving credit.
