eToro to acquire TradeZero as crypto revenue drops 30%
eToro said crypto asset revenue fell to $1.34 billion in Q2, while total crypto trades on its platform dropped to 1.4 million in July, down 73% year over year.
Trading platform eToro said it will buy US online brokerage TradeZero as part of its expansion plans, after reporting a decline in crypto-related performance. According to Cointelegraph, eToro expects the acquisition to be accretive to adjusted earnings per share in the first year after closing, with closing expected in the first half of 2026.
In its second-quarter results, eToro reported $1.59 billion in revenue, down from $2.0 billion in the comparable 2025 period. Of that total, revenue from crypto assets fell to $1.34 billion, about 30% lower than the $1.9 billion recorded in Q2 2025, while crypto-related cost of revenue was $1.35 billion.
Cointelegraph reported that eToro generated $19.7 million in net income from crypto assets, bringing total net income to $53.4 million. The company also said equities and commodities-related trading contributed $141 million in net income.
The deal comes as activity on eToro’s crypto platform cooled, with total cryptocurrency trades falling to 1.4 million in July, a 73% year-over-year decline, and the invested amount down 50%. Cointelegraph added that TradeZero generated about $80 million of revenue with 81% gross margins over the last 12 months ended June 30, 2026.
